Kevin O'Neill Announces Candidacy for Republican Nomination in Virginia's First District Congressional Race

My wife Patty and I were both born to parents who were small business owners and public school teachers. Our parents instilled in us the notion that hard work, a good education and a strong moral character will take you wherever you want to go in life. We were part of middle-class families that were often frustrated by the sense that government expected too much from us and delivered too little in return. In our own professional careers, Patty and I have always pursued jobs with a common theme - we have looked for opportunities to use our energy, enthusiasm and expertise to help others achieve their hopes and dreams in life. Those jobs have made us rich in ways no bank account can measure. Today, as we raise our own family, we worry about whether or not the future we can leave to our children will be as bright as the future our parents left for us. If I am elected as your next Representative, I will dedicate myself to addressing the major challenges facing our nation and I will help my fellow citizens try to achieve their own versions of the American Dream. Serving others and solving common problems - isn't that the right job description for our next Representative? Choosing our next Representative is a big decision. The First District deserves a Representative who has these key qualities:
God gave me two ears and one mouth for a reason. Representing you means understanding what solutions you need from the government and doing my best to meet your needs.
I am a proud child of the Reagan revolution and I hold dear the fundamental principles of a limited government, fiscal responsibility and individual freedom. As a result of the actions of some Representatives in Washington, the American Public is losing confidence in their government. I will earn back your trust in a government based on Republican ideals one day at a time, issue by issue. Solutions to our problems also require coalitions that bridge the gap of unending partisan warfare that frustrates citizens and causes them to leave the political process.
Our nation spends money like a teenager's first trip to the mall with someone else's credit card. The bill for our spending spree is coming due. Government takes in more than enough revenue but it never sets priorities and therefore does not live within its means. We can no longer avoid reforming runaway entitlement spending. I have the determination to make hard choices about our fiscal priorities while ensuring government improves its effectiveness and provides for our neediest citizens.
If done right, serving as your Representative will be never-ending series of long days and nights working on your behalf. I have the boundless energy and work ethic to do this job right and I won't ever stop working to earn your support.
This job starts immediately and we can't be handicapped by someone who doesn't understand how to make the legislative process work for our needs. I'm the only candidate in this race who has a track record of success in Washington on issues that matter to you: fiscal responsibility, transportation, helping small businesses, building a strong military, healthcare, education, and homeland security. Hire me as your next Representative - I can hit the ground running to accomplish things for the First District.
